Milling:
Milling is a secondary step in the manufacturing of printing inks, coatings and even agricultural pesticides and pharmaceuticals. After a pre-mix step in which these coarse and solid particles are pre-dispersed in a fluid vehicle, the main grinding stage produces a finished product greatly affected by the final size of the solid particle. In the case of inks and coatings, a smaller particle carries the benefits of more coverage with less pigment and a host of visual benefits in the areas of vividness or transparency where desired.
The Milltek Advantage:
Conventional mill technology comes with a high capital cost. Achieving very small particles often requires two stage milling to overcome the filtration limitations of commercial mills. The Milltek technology break-through employs very small grinding media in one unit to reduce cost and open up the benefits of small particle size to small volume applications that would not normally justify an expensive two-step milling operation. For high volume applications, the smaller particles can yield a substantial reduction in substrate consumption.
Milltek utilizes laser light scattering and diffraction technology to analyze particle size. Our experienced and skilled technical staff offer recommendations and insight into your application, customizing testing and quality control for your specific needs.
